Today was the start of another great week at Hye Camp. All campers and staff had breakfast together and headed to the chapel for morning service led by Fr. Aren. The message for the day was “Christ calls us to be the salt and light of the Earth.” After morning service, a new week of classes started with combined groups of campers. During Armenian heritage, the campers learned how to play tavloo and had time to play the game together. At arts and crafts, the campers made sculptures of the first letter of their names and then painted them with some vibrant colors. In religion, led by Fr. Paren Galustyan from Waukegan, they learned about St. Gregory of Narek. In Armenian language, we welcomed our new teacher, Talin, as she continued to teach the campers about the letters of the Armenian alphabet. After classes we had lunch, which was followed by sports and swim. All campers were together for both sports and swim and had time to get to know each other more. Following sports and swim, campers had some free time with their cabins before heading to dinner. Dinner was served at 5:45PM and after teens and juniors got ready for their evening activities. In the evening, the teens had a meeting with current and past ACYOA Central Council members. The meeting was all about ACYOA and how campers can be a part of the organization. During this time, the juniors were doing their evening activity which included picking their favorite passage from the bible and writing it on their bodies. This symbolizes their interest and understanding of the verse, and that it is important enough for them to represent that verse. After their meeting, the teens got to do the same thing in the chapel. Snack was served for both teens and juniors in the lodge (Oreo cookies and milk). Then, all campers and staff headed to the chapel for evening service. The message to close off the day was given by Levon. Lights were out for all campers by 11:00PM as they got rest for a new day at Hye Camp.
