We had a wonderful day today! Our daily schedule was in full swing. After chapel, flagpole, and breakfast, the teens began with a game of line basketball under the pavilion followed by their first dip in the pool. While head lifeguard Ani Hollisian was explaining pool rules and procedures during teen swim time, the juniors attended their first day of classes. They practiced singing the National anthem of Armenia, “Mer Hairenik,” in Culture and Heritage and expanded their vocabularies in Armenian Language with phrases like “I’m Hungry/Anoti Em.” The teens and juniors rotated schedules for the afternoon, but a sudden rain shower kept the juniors out of the pool. Instead, after their turn on the basketball court they spent time playing games in the Rec Hall. Everyone on campus participated in a fire drill after dinner and then we continued our evening with a special activity called “Dear SVC.” Maestro Khoren Mekanejian and Der Diran Bohajian were warmly welcomed by the entire camp this afternoon. Campers worked together to choose a passage or phrase from the Bible and then used washable magic markers to write the phrase on themselves. They had fun helping each other look through their Bibles and posed for photos afterward. From the big smiles, high fives, and laughs we’ve shared all day, we’re off to a great start!
