Today was the first full day of Hye Camp! The weather was cool throughout the day, but sunny and perfect for a full day of activities outside. Wake-up was bright and early at 7:30 AM, followed by breakfast and morning service. Then we headed back to the cabins to clean-up and prepare for the day. Juniors (ages 8-12) headed to classes while the teens (ages 13-15) headed to sports and swim. This week, St. Nersess seminarians, Levon Asadourian and Edgar Gevorgyan are teaching the Armenian Language classes. Today, V. Rev. Fr. Aren Jebejian taught the religion classes and got to know the campers while discussing the Code of Christian Living and our expectations at camp. Staff members, Daniel, Viken, Ethan and Ari taught the campers the art of tavloo during heritage today. In Arts and Crafts, Maria and Jacob helped the campers create their very own prayer journals with Armenian prayers. After some free time and dinner, our programming and Olympics crew divided everyone into six Olympic teams. Everyone worked together to create team names, flags and team mottos and later presented them to the entire camp community. We later enjoyed cookies and milk for snack before heading to the evening prayer service led by Rev. Fr. Yeprem Kelegian pastor of St. Mesrob Armenian Church in Racine, WI. We look forward to another sunny day filled more opportunities to make great memories!
