Today was a hot one, but St. Vartan Camp was still buzzing with activity.  Maria Derderian, Youth Minister of St. James Church in Watertown, Massachusetts offered the morning message, building off of Rev. Fr. Vasken Kouzouian’s “greatness” sermon from yesterday.  During sports, campers, CITs, and staff played World Cup Soccer, then headed to the pool to find it decorated for Tiki Tuesday.  In today’s arts and crafts class, campers cut out images of Armenian monuments and clipped them to clothes lines, making a great decoration to bring home.  We welcomed back Maestro Khoren Mekanejian during heritage class, where he taught Armenian folklore songs and led the Michigan Hop dance.  Finally, Maria Derderian guided campers through a discussion of the rules of Christian living.  This afternoon’s special programming consisted of a choice of three field games: dodgeball, soccer, and volleyball.  After our bellies were filled from Taco Tuesday, counselor groups became human machines, working together to form everything from a blender to an iPhone. Be sure to ask your campers about this creative evening program.  We finished with a quiet vespers service, which was a peaceful ending to an exciting day!
