On Sunday, we started our day by celebrating Badarak. As we said goodbye to our visiting ACYOA Central Council members, we welcomed our campers into this new camp season! There were many new faces we were eager to learn and old faces we were delighted to see again. We broke the ice and got to know each other at our camper orientation.
Today, the camp began its full weekday schedule. The rain did not put a damper on our fun! Campers made gimp in Arts and Crafts, learned the Tamzara and Michigan Hop dances in Heritage, began learning the alphabet in Armenian Language, and reviewed Saint Vartan Camp’s Code of Christian Living in Religion. Der Mesrob Hovsepyan from St. James in Richmond, Virginia and Der Khachatur Kesablyan from Sts. Vartanantz in Chelmsford, Massachusetts are here to help us with Religion classes and Chapel, and they are having a great time participating in the life of the camp. In the afternoon, campers had a blast spending time on the Rockin’ Rapids water slide and playing handball during sports. In the evening, we tested their memorization skills by playing a life-size game of Memory. The night ended with a unique game of volleyball, where campers, CITs, and staff had to play on their knees. It was a great first day, and we look forward to many more!
