Today was the last full day of Hye Camp 2012, and it was a beautiful day despite the warm weather. Our day began with a later wake-up time giving campers an extra hour of sleep. After breakfast, we headed to chapel for a special service. During the Antasdan (Blessing of the Fields)everyone headed outside to bless the four corners and were blessed with rose water. Next we gathered for our cabin and group photos before a surprise water attack in celebration of the Armenian tradition of Vartavar by our camp director, Fr. Aren. He then led the entire camp population to the sports field where everyone enjoyed getting wet. After, lunch we concluded the Olympic events with relay races and sporting events before cooling off in the pool and having some canteen and free time. After dinner, we quickly got ready for the Closing Ceremonies and presentation of the Olympic flags before announcing team 7 as the winners of the Hye Camp 2012 Olympics. The dance was kicked off by members of the Detroit and Chicago Armenian dance troupes. Following their performance, participants joined in to the sounds of a live Armenian band. After a full day, campers headed back to their cabins for their final night’s sleep before heading back home Saturday morning.
