CITs, Staff and Volunteers

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program at St. Vartan Camp

The Counselor-in-Training program is open to qualified young people 16 and 17 years old.

CITs will participate in a Leadership Training program that includes both “on-the-job” training by working with staff and campers, along with daily leadership and team building classes. If you have any questions about the application process, contact Kathryn Ashbahian, Youth and Young Adult Ministries Associate, at (212) 686-0710 ext. 143, or via e-mail.

PLEASE NOTE: CITs may only apply for one session, and they must arrive at camp a day before their session begins (Session A: Saturday, June 23; Session B: Saturday, July 7; Session C: Saturday, July 21) to undergo a special orientation with directors, staff, and counselors. CITs should arrive between 1pm-3pm, and the CIT Orientation starts promptly at 3:30pm.

The CIT program has a limited amount of space for each session. The application process is a competitive one, and this year we are expecting a large number of applicants. Keep in mind that though your chances of being accepted will increase if your availability is flexible, you may not necessarily be accepted for your first-choice. Decisions are made based on the camp needs of each particular year.

All CIT applications must be received by MARCH 15; therefore, please act quickly if you are interested in this opportunity. CITs will be notified of acceptance by April 1.

Session A: June 24-July 7
Session B: July 8-July 21
Session C: July 22-August 4
Tuition: $625

Seeking Qualified Staff Members

The St. Vartan Camp staff is an integral part of the quality, integrity, and success of the program. They are expected to serve as mentors and Christian role models, and as such, not only have a positive and lasting impact on campers, but also bear a tremendous responsibility. Accordingly, we are seeking fun-loving, dedicated, and faithful individuals who welcome the opportunity to spend the summer mentoring young Armenian Christians and strengthening their own faith in the process. We also provide a modest stipend in appreciation of their efforts.

Please note: St. Vartan Camp prefers staff available for all three Sessions A, B and C, but will accept staff who can only attend one session, if available.

All Staff applications must be received by MARCH 15; therefore, please act quickly if you are interested in this opportunity. Staff will be notified of acceptance by April 1.

If you are accepted as a staff member, you must attend Staff Training from Wednesday, June 20 to Saturday, June 23 for participation in mandatory training and pre-camp preparations, as required by New York State regulations. This training session is for all staff, regardless of the number of weeks on staff. An alternate training session for non full-summer staff may be scheduled if the need arises. However, until such alternate training session is determined, all staff must plan on attending the pre-camp on-site training, from. If you have any questions about the application process, contact Kathryn Ashbahian, Youth and Young Adult Ministries Associate, at (212) 686-0710 ext. 143, or via e-mail.

Volunteers

Our team of volunteers is an integral part of the quality, integrity and success of the St. Vartan Camp program. Volunteers serve as mentors and Christian role models, and as such, not only have a positive and lasting impact on campers but also bear a tremendous responsibility. Accordingly, we are seeking fun-loving, dedicated, and faithful individuals who welcome the opportunity to spend the week, or even the summer, mentoring young Armenian Christians and strengthening their own faith in the process.

As dedicated members of your parish community, we are sure you know of young adults that would make excellent staff members. We hope that you will help us in spreading the word and recruiting this year. In addition, if you know of other adult volunteers that would benefit our program, then please pass this information on to them and ask them to contact us. The areas that we are most in need of adult volunteers are: camp nurses, classroom volunteers, nighttime security, lifeguards, Armenian Language instructors, and Religion instructors.

If you are interested in applying to be a volunteer, please contact Kathryn Ashbahian, Youth and Young Adult Ministries Associate, at (212) 686-0710 ext. 143, or via e-mail to request a Volunteer Application form. Please postmark all of your application materials, including the clergy recommendation form that your pastor submits to us, by MARCH 15. As you know, our space is limited but our need for your support is great. We will let you know of your acceptance based on the needs of the camp program and of the session for which you apply by April 1.
